Chinese Dissidents Stand with Tibetans
Speech by Sheng Xue on Jan 19 2025 at Finding the Common Ground Forum
Like what Tsultrim Gyatso la just mentioned about finding common ground:
SHENG Xue: Since 2008, His Holiness, wherever he goes, makes an effort to meet with Chinese-speaking communities to have conferences, establish contact, and foster dialogue. Why? Because His Holiness deeply understands that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) cannot represent China, cannot represent the Chinese people, and cannot represent any of the people living under the CCP’s oppressive rule.
For this reason, His Holiness has dedicated significant time, energy, and effort to connecting with Chinese people around the world. From that time onwards, Chinese communities worldwide have truly had opportunities to understand His Holiness the Dalai Lama, to learn about the Tibetan people, to become aware of Tibetans in Tibet, and to gain a deeper understanding of Tibetans in the international community.
These efforts have illuminated the existence of a group of people in this world who have been a steadfast force in the global movement against tyranny and oppressive regimes. The Tibetan people have persisted for the longest time, achieved remarkable effectiveness, and become the most successful in international lobbying efforts.
Moreover, outside the reach of CCP rule, Tibetans have established a government-in-exile, a parliament, and the full structure of a functioning state—setting a standard of excellence. What does this mean? It means that when the CCP collapses, during that transitional period, it is highly likely that China may face humanitarian crises. During such a time, Tibetans in Tibet will likely be among the most stable groups to navigate through this challenging period because of the leadership of His Holiness and the tireless efforts of Tibetans abroad.
Therefore, people in other regions should learn from their experience. The time has come for everyone, every region, and every ethnic group to cultivate a sense of self-rescue and seek a path to self-salvation.
That is why today, as we hold this Tibetan-Chinese forum on finding common ground, it is incredibly significant and necessary.
Special thanks to Tsultrim Gyatso, who has traveled all the way from Washington, D.C., to attend this meeting. As for the Federation for a Democratic China, established in September 1989 after the June Fourth Massacre, we have persevered here in Canada until today. We will continue to grow stronger along with the new global wave of anti-CCP and anti-communist efforts.
We will also work more closely with our Tibetan friends locally, as well as with all other regions, ethnic groups, and individuals from various fields. We must unite tightly together because this is the only path to defeating the CCP and achieving victory.
Thank you!
