If the US court finds Wenyi Wang guilty, I am willing to serve the sentence with her.

----- An Open Letter to President Bush

April 24, 2006

Dear President Bush,

I would once again like to thank you for your rescue when the Chinese Communist regime was persecuting me. Today, I hope that with your righteous belief in freedom and justice you can also put a stop to the charges brought by the US prosecutors against Dr. Wenyi Wang.

Although you may not be able to confirm that the Chinese Communist regime is directing or abetting the heinous crime of harvesting organs from living Falun Gong practitioners, I am sure you know that the Chinese Communist regime has been escalating its persecution of Falun Gong practitioners and political dissidents for many years now. Moreover, whether or not the Chinese Communist regime has committed this crime, the international community can and should conduct a fair investigation into this issue.

As we all know, the reason why the American forefathers endured great hardship and peril to cross the Atlantic Ocean on the Mayflower more than two centuries ago was because they could no longer endure religious persecution and desired a land of freedom. For Dr. Wenyi Wang and those of us who are political exiles, it is precisely because we believe that the America, created by the founding fathers and strengthened by able successors like you, is a free country that we dare to protest the crimes committed by the Chinese Communist regime since the time of Mao Zedong. Additionally, Wenyi Wang’s peaceful protest did not pose any real threat to Hu Jintao but was a simply demonstration of her constitutional rights. The ultimate responsibility of this incident lies with the Chinese Communist regime. We believe you also indicated in your welcome speech to Hu Jintao that the Chinese government is a regime that only allows economic freedom and does not allow freedom of speech and political freedom.

Today’s Wenyi Wang may face severe consequences simply because of her expression of righteous emotions, much like the demonstration of the two African American sprinters, Tommy Smith and John Carlos, in the Olympics in Mexico 38 years ago. However, they are all heroes their time.

In the early morning of April 23rd, I solemnly pledged to Dr. Wenyi Wang: “If the Washington D.C. District Court sentences you to prison, I am willing to go to the prison and serve the sentence with you or stay with you outside the prison gate.” Now, I would like to notify you of my intention in advance through this open letter. Considering all the efforts you devoted in the past to rescue me, I hope that my action and determination will not let you, the US government, or the American people down.

Best wishes and good health to you, the first lady and your family!

Your loyal friend,

Wenli Xu
