说明: IMG_9385.jpeg

说明: IMG_8481.jpeg

说明: IMG_9082.heic

My Journey of Faith — From Persecution by the CCP to Rebirth as an Anti-Communist

Author: He Xingqiang

Since childhood I have been deeply interested in God and faith; I paid a lot of attention to religious books and related materials. Deep down I believed there was a Creator, that God existed, and I was often puzzled as to why Chinese people do not worship God or go to religious places. My parents never took me to any religious venue, and my heart was full of questions about faith. Because of these doubts I read many religious works — Confucian texts like the Analects, Laozi and Zhuangzi, Buddhist writings including the Platform Sutra of the Sixth Patriarch, and other books — hoping to find answers and a final solution to my spiritual confusion. Yet none of them satisfied me. I always believed there must be a practice that allows a person to truly speak with God and actually encounter Him.

In the 1990s, when qigong was very popular in China, I tried practicing qigong and even helped others with healing. Whether it was a placebo effect or something else, patients said it helped. Still, inside I had many unresolved questions — my soul hadn’t found a home, I hadn’t found a direction for my faith. From early education I was taught atheism and materialism, and to strive for the great communist ideal. But I always felt this was wrong: if people do not believe in God, there is no moral restraint, no reverence, and many problems arise — just as the Communist Party acts with impunity and kills without conscience. At root, it’s the Party’s brainwashing and assimilating education.

A qigong teacher I studied with later introduced me to the Guanyin Famen and to Supreme Master Ching Hai. When I watched the Master’s lectures and read her books, I felt this was the way I had been seeking to communicate with God. I believed this Master was enlightened and truly understood the truth. After three months of a vegetarian diet, I underwent “imprinting” and joined that spiritual group. Through the meditation techniques the Master taught, I felt I truly connected with God — my heart became full and satisfied.

Supreme Master Ching Hai is an enlightened teacher who often speaks of what Jesus Christ did for humanity, including His sacrifice and martyrdom. Through her discourses I truly came to understand the greatness of Jesus, and my heart was moved by the Holy Spirit. The Master also explains Buddhism and other religions clearly and accessibly; she says all religions seek God and the approach to God differs by language and cultural interpretation, which causes misunderstandings. The Master is very talented and enlightened — she speaks English, French, German, Vietnamese, Chinese, and other languages fluently. As someone who works with languages, I deeply admire that.

During her teachings the Master said that communism will eventually perish. I was puzzled then, but later felt she was absolutely right. Because of statements like that the Chinese Communist Party considers her a dangerous person. Guanyin Famen was labeled a “cult,” and even though there are hundreds of thousands of followers on the mainland, she cannot go there because the CCP fears her influence and the truth she speaks.

Compared with the mainland, Taiwan is a free and democratic country where Guanyin Famen took root early and grew. Many mainland followers long to go to Taiwan to see the Master. Mainland practitioners envy Taiwan’s democracy: people there enjoy freedom of religion, human rights, and liberty — blessings from heaven.

Besides Taiwan, Guanyin Famen has tens of thousands of followers in other countries and many centers in the U.S., because the main method of prayer and communicating with God is meditation. There are meditation centers around the world and in many U.S. states. After I came to the United States I connected with a meditation center in Los Angeles and attended meditation and prayer every Sunday morning.

In contrast to the loose religious environment in the U.S. and other democracies, mainland China is heavily oppressed and strictly controlled. There are no official meditation and prayer centers because the CCP will not allow them to grow; it seeks to eliminate such religious groups just as it did with Falun Gong — banning them entirely. Practitioners are arrested, imprisoned, and have their organs harvested. These shocking atrocities are actually happening under CCP rule in China. It is heartbreaking.

A college classmate of mine practiced Falun Gong. In his sophomore year he was taken away by campus national security and subjected to “re-education.” After graduating, because he continued practicing he was fired from his job and later sentenced to prison. His elderly father came to my home in tears, calling him a traitor; in fact, it is the CCP that is the greatest executioner. How many normal families have been torn apart because people pursued their faith and were persecuted and jailed? There is no justice. Recently, during our protest in New York, we met a Falun Gong practitioner who told us she had been detained by the CCP, confined in a room, had blood drawn, and was matched for organ transplants. Fortunately she did not match; otherwise she would have been harvested alive. Her life and family were destroyed; she came alone to the United States because America’s great freedoms gave her the air of liberty and freedom of religion.

The person who introduced me to Guanyin Famen was also repeatedly summoned by state security and told to leave the organization and stop attending events. We had to burn many books and video materials. In Xi’an, six Guanyin Famen practitioners were arrested and sentenced for spreading information about the practice. In Xinjiang there were also practitioners imprisoned. Although Guanyin Famen in the mainland is not completely wiped out like Falun Gong, its followers cannot openly meditate and pray; they can only do so quietly at home. The official Guanyin Famen website, godsdirectcontact.org, lists meditation centers worldwide — except for any centers in mainland China, precisely because of the CCP’s severe repression and persecution. Although Guanyin Famen is considered a legitimate religious group in the United States and other countries, it cannot exist freely under CCP rule.

After coming to the United States I wholeheartedly joined anti-Communist organizations. I became a member of the China Democracy Party and the China Democratic Human Rights League because I felt the Communist Party is truly evil, anti-human, and anti-person. The Party and communism must be removed from the earth. Only then can China welcome real constitutional governance, and Chinese people enjoy genuine freedom of religion, freedom of speech, and human rights.
